I am new at this so I apologize for getting this out so late. I think the holidays is a good excuse, but I

will have to spend time learning a new program in order for the format to stay the way it was. Chuck did

such a good job.

Our last meeting on December 4th was our annual Christmas Party. Members present were Doris & Irv

McGuire, Jim Stiek, Judy Campbell, Bill Jones, Jerry Duis, Chuck & Cora Mehm, Jerry & Jo Robertson

and Bud & Gail Musser. S special thanks to Doris for arranging the facility for our get together & for the

food everyone brought. It was suggest that I put a couple of recipes in this news letter, so look for them

at the end.

Everyone brought a wrapped hand made ornament and we had fun picking and stealing them. Judy stole

an intarsia bear from Gail and then she wouldn't let anyone else steel it. She hordes bears!!!!

We had our show and tell with Jo Robertson telling about the chickadee intarsia piece she did and Gail

Musser sharing a 3D Santa, sleigh & Reindeer that she finally got around to building.

Next years picnic was discussed. Judy is to check on a building, Jim is to check on the park and Jerry

Robertson offered his big garage if we can not settle on a location. We will discuss this in more detail at

our next meeting.

Our next meeting will be held on Jan 8th due to the fact that the first Saturday is New Year's Day. The

meeting will be held at Chuck & Cora's house. See directions below.

RECIPES

Ritz Crackers

Spread peanut butter between 2 Ritz crackers. Melt an almond bar in microware and dip the crackers into

the melted bar. Place on wax paper then sprinkle with color if desired.

Club Crackers

Melt and boil for 4 minutes 1/2 cup sugar, 1 stick oleo, 1 stick butter.

Spray cookie sheet with pam and place club crackers on the cookie sheet. Pour mixture over the crackers

and sprinkle with sliced almonds. Bake 14-15 minutes at 325. Remove from cookie sheet immediately

APRIL 2010

The next meeting of the NorthEast

Oklahoma Scrollers will be held

7PM, April 1, 2010, at Cora and

Chuck’s house. The address is

8708 South 73rd East Ave.,Tulsa.

See the enclosed map if you need

directions or call 250-3517.

If you have a folding chair please

bring it.

We had 11 members at the March

meeting. Judy was on vacation so

President Jim read the treasurer’s

report. Secretary Cora Mehm

passed around minutes from the

previous meeting.

Under old/new business our

upcoming picnic was discussed. It

was decided that we would hold

the picnic from 10:00 AM to 2:00

PM and we would plan to eat at

noon.

Jim mentioned that he now has a

30 cup coffee maker and that the

club would supply coffee and iced

tea for drinks and if you desire

something else you will have to

bring your own.

We plan to have a show and tell

and a raffle of homemade items so

be sure to bring something for both

of these.

Almost forgot, the date of our

picnic is April 24th and I am

enclosing a map on how to get to

Hunter Park.

Judy is in charge of the planning

so she probably will be calling to

find out what you will be bringing.

The shelter has plenty of tables

with attached benches but if you

want to sit somewhere beside at a

table be sure to bring your chair.

Gail Musser gave us a program on

intarsia. She brought several of her

pieces and described how to cut

the mating sections so they blend

into one another. If you haven’t

seen her work you really have

missed something!!

She has one piece that is of a wood

duck and it truly is a work of art.

SHOW and TELL:

Jerry Duis brought a layered

dragon, and a portrait of a girl

kissing a horse. The portrait of the

girl was matted by his wife Billi in

a very unusual style.

Jim Stiek brought a slew of

toothpick holders made of corian.

They were all 3D teeth and the

way Jim displayed them (by

accident I’m sure) in a low box

they looked like a mouthful of

teeth

Chuck Mehm displayed a necklace

made with a pierced coin mounted

in cherry.

THE PREZ SEZ or JIM’S

JAWINGS:

Hi, guys and girls. I am still

waiting for tips, just one or two

from everyone. They will be called

on to present them at the meetings

as the year progresses. It is really

great to share with everyone.

Thanks to Gail for a great

presentation on intarsia. If you

were not there you missed a good

one.

Remember the picnic on the 24th of

April. Please let Chuck or I know

that you and you family plan to

attend if you have not signed up

yet. Also, if you can come early to

help setup it would be appreciated.

We will have coffee and

doughnuts for the early birds.

As you are aware we cancelled the

January meeting because of the

intense cold so this newsletter will

be sadly lacking in information.

(That is more so than usual!)

I have received several emails

from Ed J. concerning Project

Rudolph. I thought you might be

interested in reading a few of the

thank-you noted from G.I.’s who

received the packets.

“Dear Ray and Cheri, (founders of

Project Rudolph)

I am an Air Force Officer currently

deployed to Camp Lemonnier,

Djbouti. Last night at our camp

Christmas party, Santa came and

handed out bags of goodies to all

of the servicemen and women.

This is a joint base with

servicemembers from all of the

branches of the military, though

the majority here are Navy and

Marines.

As I opened my bag last night,

imagine my surprise when I read

the notes and realized they were all

from Paul and Burley, ID. I was

born and raised in Soda Springs,

ID, attended the University of

Idaho, and only left Idaho after

joining the military. It was like

having a little piece of home sent

to me and really touched me. This

is the second Christmas in 3 years

I have been deployed, and I have

been feeling a little bummed out

missing Christmas with my family

yet again, and your little care

package really lifted my spirits. I

plan to send a personal note of

thanks to each of the kids who

wrote a note in my bag-thanks

very much for putting all of this

together.

Today I received a Project

Rudolph bag with the note from

you. I wanted to send you an email

to say thank you very much and to

let you know it was very

appreciated. I went to the Dining

Facility and while there a soldier

was handing out the Project

Rudolph bags and mine had your

note. As a Soldier with almost 19

years in and on my second

deployment to Iraq I can say the

efforts of good caring people like

you do not go unappreciated.

These little surprises make being

away, especially during the

holidays, just a little easier.

Anyway THANK YOU very much

and I hope you have a wonderful

Christmas and a Happy New Year.

If you notice in both of these

emails the soldiers mentioned how

much they enjoyed the notes in

their packages. Ed John has many

more emails that say the same.

Maybe we should also include

“thank you” and “be safe”

messages with our ornaments.

(Just wanted to see if you were

paying attention)

Our picnic is just 2 months away

and Jim is going to need help in

the planning, both in setting the

shelter up – banner, extra chairs,

ect, and what food will be needed.

When he asks, don’t be shy, speak

up, tell him what you think and

volunteer to pitch in to do what has

to be done.

There still seems to be a problem

with the rules of the 2X4 contest.

I think the problem lies in the fact

that there are no rules, you can cut

it, resaw it, turn it, nail it screw it,

glue it. You can paint it, stain it,

varnish it or leave it plain. In short

anything you want to do.

It will be on the honor system in

that you must use only ONE

2”X4”X8’ in its construction. And

just in case anyone asks, you do

not have to use the whole board.

Well that will do it for this month,

hope to see all of you Feb 4th at

Jim’s. Until then keep sawing and

January,2010 we are a SAW local chapter

The next meeting of the NorthEast

Oklahoma Scrollers will be at 7

PM, January 7th in Jim Stotts

shop. See the enclosed map if you

need directions.

The December meeting was held

Dec 3rd and we had our annual

Christmas party. We had 18

members and guests present and

more than enough food for

everyone to go home full.

For show and tell Ken Rankin

brought a puzzle box he made

from cherry. He stated that he

made a total of six that come

Christmas he will place presents in

for their children. He also

mentioned that their kids got a

bigger kick out of seeing what dad

made to hold the present than the

present.

Jim Stiek showed off some

experimental earrings he is

working on. They were really neat

and hopefully he will perfect the

technique and we will see a

finished product.

Judy Campbell brought a 3D

“JOY” cut out of oak. Judy made it

for a friend of hers named,

naturally, Joy.

The toys that we made all year

were boxed up and those who were

going to deliver them to different

charities took them.

Be Proud of yourselves!!!! You

made over 1200 toys and between

us and the Branson group Ed John

was able to send 1000 ornaments

to Project Rudolph. Hopefully they

will brighten the day for some GI’s

stationed in the Middle East.

Ed mentioned that it would help

him if, as you finish the

ornaments, you would bring them

to the next meeting.

Also discussed was our upcoming

picnic in April. We have reserved

the shelter at Hunter Park for April

24th. The menu will include

smoked brisket and smoked ham.

Judy and Jim will issue a personal

invite to the Branson club.

The 2010 slate of officers was

meeting and they are:

We all need give them a large

“thank you” for volunteering to

lead our club. Also, don’t be shy in

saying “I will” when, not if, Jim

asks for your help.

We do need someone to take over

and overhaul our web site.

We do have a new wood store here

in Tulsa, Little Creek Hardwoods.

It is located at 41st & Sheridan just

to the east of the car lot. I was in

there last week and they are fairly

well supplied with wood. I have

included a price list in this

newsletter. Come to the January

meeting and hopefully the owner

will be there to answer your

questions. From the talking Cora

and I did with him he seems

willing to try to work with us.

Also, don’t forget Jim Stotts as a

source of wood. He also will do

custom cutting and panel making

at a competitive price.

Branson consider yourself

challenged, and bring what you

build here to Tulsa. More next

We produced over 1000 again this year and the club in conjunction with the Branson tri-lakes club made over 1000 ornaments for our service personnel in uniform that will be away from home during the holidays. Great job everyone.




We had a great time at the November meeting putting together toys,  and eating soup and chili provided by Doris McGuire and Judy Campbell.

Ed John, the chairman of project Rudolph, did a great job with the project and his wife decorated the ornaments with ribbon. Ed reported that over 900 ornaments were donated and he cut enough to make the 1000 mark. THANKS ED.



An abbreviated meeting was held and nominations were made for next year’s officers.
